Special Education Mediation -- Common disputes include disagreements concerning the identification, evaluation, educational placement or provision of the free appropriate public education of learners with disabilities, communications problems among interested partners; strained relationships between family and the school district and assessment or trust issues. The Nebraska Special Education mediation process is voluntary, confidential and at no cost to either party. It does not interfere with either the right to due process or with due process timelines. Small Claims Mediation is simple and quick, usually needing only one meeting. It involves fair treatment and respect. Both sides sign an agreement to keep the mediation confidential. Research indicates that mediated small claims agreements are nearly twice as likely to be complied with as court-ordered judgements. Landlord-Tenant -- Similar to Small Claims mediations, Landlord-Tenant disputes are simple and quick and usually require only one session. Such mediations in this category include rent issues and other lease compliance concerns. Workplace mediations can come in many varieties. Disputes may be between employees or be between an employer and the employee. They may involve two parties or can be as involved to include different departments. The specific contents of the mediation are kept confidential, however, on some occasions, if the employer is requesting the mediation, the agreement reached may be shared with the employer in response to the need for a plan or list of objectives from the employees. Juvenile Mediation includes a number of different issues involved in the lives of youth. Mediation can be a very helpful tool in working with parents and adolescents struggling to communicate about large and small issues. Juvenile mediation also includes youth issues between juvenile/juvenile, juvenile/school personnel, juvenile/service provider, juvenile offender/victim, and any other situation involving a youth. Employment First -- Mediation offers you and your case manager the opportunity to work together to resolve concerns that may arise. It is private, voluntary and confidential. It is a free service for Employment First clients. |
